Franz Merk (born December 26, 1894 in Grafenhausen , † April 9, 1945 in Donaueschingen ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ).

Live and act

After attending elementary school and the advanced training school in Grafenhausen, Franz Merk took part in the First World War with the 114 Infantry Regiment from 1914 . In the course of the war it was used on the western , eastern and Balkan fronts. He was also assigned to the motor vehicle and aviation troops.

Merk was a farmer and innkeeper by profession. From 1919 Merk was active as an orator and as a writer in rural and national organizations. His activity was directed against the Catholic Center Party in particular . From 1922 to 1923 he was editor of the Schwarzwälder Zeitung (Landbundblatt) in Bonndorf and employee of various daily newspapers.

From 1922 to 1926 he was district councilor in Waldshut and Freiburg , then from 1926 to 1930 district councilor in Neustadt and, from 1926, local councilor in Grafenhausen.

In November 1928 Merk joined the NSDAP (membership number 107.245), in which he took over tasks as district leader and speaker. In 1929 he became a member of the NS parliamentary group in the state parliament of the Republic of Baden . In public he excelled in particular by his demand that National Socialism should emulate the model of the Bolshevik Soviet Union in terms of church politics and eliminate the leaders of the Catholic Church.

After 1933, Merk held the office of regional chairman in the Reichsnährbund and, since 1934, that of a main office manager at the Office for Agricultural Policy in Gau Baden. From November 1933 to the end of 1945 he was also a member of the National Socialist Reichstag for constituency 32 (Baden) . Merk held the rank of SS-Obersturmführer in the SS .
