Franz Ockermüller

Franz Ockermüller (born May 21, 1915 in Vienna ; † December 5, 1976 there ) was an Austrian banking specialist.

He came from a small family, but was allowed to attend the Academic Gymnasium because of his talent .

Ockermüller headed the Österreichische Länderbank as general director until his death in 1963 and was known for his classical education and pointed sayings as well as for the cautious but authoritarian management of the nationalized bank entrusted to him . He was with the banking institution for 42 years and served on the company's board of directors from 1957. Ockermüller was a doctor of philosophy and a doctor of law. In 1966 he was made honorary citizenship of the University of Vienna , in 1968 that of the Technical University of Vienna .

He died after a short, serious illness. Bruno Kreisky dedicated a praising obituary to him in the Arbeiter-Zeitung of December 6, 1976. Franz Ockermüller was buried on December 9, 1976 in the family grave at the Roman Catholic parish cemetery in Penzing in Einwanggasse. Christian Broda gave the funeral speech , like Friedrich Heer, a school friend of the deceased.

The theater and film director Kurt Ockermüller is his son.
