Franz Richter (born July 10, 1905 in Vienna , † November 15, 1973 in Munich ) was an Austrian politician ( NSDAP ) and SS leader .

Live and act

After attending primary school in Vienna and secondary school , Richter trained as a strap maker . In addition, he was taught at the advanced training school for three years. From 1922 to 1924 Richter was an active member of the SA . From 1924 to 1926 he lived in Greece and Turkey .

In October 1930 Richter rejoined the NSDAP (membership number 360.417). In the following years he participated in the founding of the Rudolfsheim district group . In autumn 1932 he was appointed district leader of the XIV district and, after the NSDAP was banned in Austria, appointed leader of a terrorist group. In February 1934 Richter was seriously injured in both hands by a firecracker explosion. He was wanted from May 1934 to May 1935, until he was finally arrested on May 6, 1935. In the last four months before his arrest, Richter was in charge of managing the district of Vienna on behalf of the escaped Alfred Eduard Frauenfeld . Richter was held in custody for six months and then acquitted of the crime against the Explosives Act, but was sentenced to four months in prison for having a false passport.

After his release from prison, Richter was sent to the Wöllersdorf detention center for an indefinite period . He was released from there on September 11th. He was detained again for a few days in October. He was then released again by March 10, 1937. In the following months he was again serving as NSDAP leader in his district. On March 10, 1937, he was appointed deputy Gauleiter . On March 11, 1937, he was arrested again until March 30, 1937, then briefly released and arrested again on April 30, sentenced to six months' police punishment and one year of detention. Due to the delivery of his wife, he was released early under conditions in mid-August. He then worked as a deputy Gauleiter until the beginning of February 1938, before taking over the Gau Wien himself.

After Austria was "annexed" to the German Empire , Richter was appointed 1st Vice Mayor of the City of Vienna. From April 1938 until the end of the Nazi regime in the spring of 1945, Richter was also a member of the National Socialist Reichstag for Austria .

From February 1940 to October 1940, Richter took part in combat operations during the Second World War as a member of the Waffen SS . Richter, who had meanwhile changed from the SA to the SS, achieved the rank of SS standard leader within the SS . After that, Richter worked as a trustee for the municipal insurance company in Vienna.
