Franz Schütz (born December 6, 1900 in Offenbach am Main ; † March 22, 1955 ) was a German football player who played eleven international matches as a defender for Eintracht Frankfurt in the German national football team from 1929 to 1932 .

career

Born in Offenbach, he played soccer in his hometown for BSC 99 until 1920 and for Kickers in 1920. In 1920 he moved to Cologne, where he first joined the BSC Cologne, before going to the soccer game from 1920 to 1925 in the district club Mülheimer SV 06 . With the Red-Whites from Ockenfels-Platz on Bergisch Gladbacher Straße, he played the round games in the Rheingauliga Group South. Mülheim was not one of the teams at the top of the table, so it was surprising that the robust defender was allowed to represent the colors of West Germany in the competition of the Federal Cup on November 9, 1924 . The semi-final game took place in Kiel against northern Germany and the men around Albert Beier , Walter Risse , Otto Harder , Eduard Wolpers and Franz Esser moved into the final with a 3-2 win against West Germany.

For the 1925/26 season Schütz returned to Hesse, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt. The Riederwald-Elf also strengthened with the Swiss national striker Walter Dietrich and the local talent Karl Döpfer . From Schütz's second year in Frankfurt, 1926/27, Eintracht belonged to the top of the table in the Main-Hessen district league. From 1928 to 1932 Schütz and colleagues were able to win five championship titles in a row, in 1927 and 1933 it was enough for runner-up. When the young trainer Paul Oßwald took over as a trainer from the 1928/29 season and two more reinforcements came to the team in the form of Hugo Mantel and Hans Stubb , the strong and sure-footed Franz Schütz was also able to further expand his capabilities and celebrated on February 10, 1929 in Mannheim made his debut in the German national soccer team at the international match against Switzerland. He formed the defense couple with Heinrich Weber from Kassel . Willibald Kreß from Rot-Weiß made his debut in goal and Georg Knöpfle from FSV was the third Frankfurt player to draw attention to the quality of football in the Main metropolis. In that game year he had also played for southern Germany in the federal cup in the games against southeast Germany and in the semifinals on January 13, 1929 in Hanover against northern Germany.

In the 1929/30 series, Schütz won with Eintracht Frankfurt - Rudolf Gramlich had returned, Bernhard Leis came to the Riederwald-Elf at the start of the round from Kelsterbach and August Möbs in March from Friedberg - ahead of SpVgg Fürth and FC Bayern Munich, the southern German championship. In 1931 the people of Fürth prevailed with one point ahead of Eintracht in southern Germany, before the Eagle Bearers were able to win the championship again in 1932 and played their way into the finals of the German championship . On June 12, 1932 Eintracht Frankfurt lost the final with 0-2 goals against FC Bayern Munich. Franz Schütz and Hans Stubb formed the defender couple for Eintracht. In the competition of the Bundespokal 1931/32 Schütz was successfully accumulated for southern Germany in the semi-final game won with 8: 1 goals on January 10, 1932 against Brandenburg. The modest and reserved footballer - he was particularly impressive because of his inconspicuousness - played 130 league games for Eintracht Frankfurt from 1925 to 1934, scoring three goals. In addition, there were 78 appearances with one goal in the games for the southern German championship, ten appearances in the final round for the German championship and three games for the southern German cup. Schütz formed a first-class defender pair with Hans Stubb for several years. He was made an honorary captain.

In the national team, his participation in the international match against England on May 10, 1930 in Berlin, when coach Otto Nerz's team managed a remarkable 3: 3 draw, stands out. In addition to the three-time German goalscorer Richard Hofmann , the Frankfurt element was represented by goalkeeper Willibald Kreß, the defenders Schütz - Stubb and the left wing runner Hugo Mantel. With his eleventh international appearance on December 4, 1932 in Düsseldorf against the Netherlands, the international career of the defender ended.

The former warehouse manager later worked in Baden-Württemberg as a general agent for a sports shoe manufacturer. He died of a heart attack in March 1955 when he tried to push his car on the way to Stuttgart.
