Franz Schwackhöfer

Franz Schwackhöfer (born April 15, 1843 in Vienna , † July 18, 1903 in Vienna) was an Austrian chemist , professor and university director. Above all, he was considered an expert in the analysis of coal and for the brewing industry.

Life

Franz Schwackhöfer initially studied chemistry and chemical auxiliary sciences at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna from 1864 to 1866. In 1862 he was the founder of the Corps Alemannia Vienna . After the re-establishment of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences , he became a lecturer in agricultural and chemical technology there in 1872. Three years later, in 1875, he also worked in the forest-chemical technology sector. From 1877, Franz Schwackhöfer was a full professor and also advanced to the position of rector of this university. In 1895 he was appointed director of the Academy for Brewing Industry.

The Franz Schwackhöfer Prize of the Association of Austrian Food and Biotechnologists and a house of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna are named after him.
