Franz Seidenschwarz

Franz Seidenschwarz (born June 16, 1954 in Mindelstetten ) is a German diplomat and biologist .

Life

After studying biology and chemistry in Munich , Seidenschwarz married his wife Elizabeth Cinco, who came from the Philippine island of Cebu and with whom he has two sons. His wife teaches German in a language school she founded. The older son is an internist in a New York hospital, the younger is an intern at Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu City .

From 1984 to 1987 he lectured at the Forest Science Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1986 he traveled to Cebu for the first time to meet his wife's parents. He has lived in Cebu City with his family since September 1987.

From 1987 to 2007 Seidenschwarz was a professor and consultant at the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City. On April 23, 1997 he was made an honorary citizen of Cebu ( Adopted Son of Cebu ). For the USC he did research a. a. in the field of water and set up a small office on the Talamban campus for the botany research group, which dealt with the natural resources of Cebu for use in pharmacy , medicine , chemistry and agriculture . During his field work he discovered the dragonfly species Risiocnemis silkenschwarzi and the climbing plant species Eriostemma silkenschwarzii , both of which were scientifically named after him. He also discovered the Stabschreckenart Theramenes mandirigma and he is the first to describe the species Cynometra cebuensis .

On April 29, 2009 he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany for Cebu. In March 2020 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
