Franz Seraph Schaub (born June 14, 1870 in Deidesheim , † December 24, 1927 in Regensburg ) was a German theologian .

Life

Franz Schaub was a son of the winemaker Franz Josef Schaub and his wife Josefa Hauser. He studied theology at the theological faculty in Munich and was ordained a priest on August 12, 1894 in Speyer . He then did his doctorate at the theological faculty in Munich. After working as a chaplain in Schifferstadt and Homburg for four years , he became court preacher at the St. Michael Church in Munich and private lecturer at the university there in 1903 . From 1907 Schaub worked as a professor for church history and Bavarian constitutional and administrative law at the Lyceum in Regensburg . In 1908 he wrote his main work, "The Catholic Caritas and their opponents", a recognized work on Caritas issues. This work earned him the name "Apostle of Caritas". Schaub had to resign from office for health reasons in 1922 and died on Christmas Eve 1927 in Regensburg, where he was buried in the cemetery of the mother house of the Mallersdorfer sisters, according to his wishes .
