Franz Stein (actor)

Franz Stein (born July 29, 1880 in Cologne , † February 12, 1958 in West Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

Franz Carl August Stein was already an experienced theater actor when he came to film in 1927. He had his first film role in the film Der Katzensteg . He played as a supporting actor in the 1920s and 30s in many films, some of which are still known today. These included M and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse . A few more films followed in the 1940s, including the big Ufa color film Münchhausen from 1943 with the role of the body hunter Rösemeyer. After the war he only shot twice; his last film was 1953 Bang and Fall as Detectives , in which he had the role of Professor Brott.

Even after the war, Stein continued to play theater continuously, including in 1946 in the Schloßparktheater in Berlin alongside Hildegard Knef in As You Like It . He also gave reading evenings with texts by Franz Kafka .
