Franz Steiner (politician, 1924)

Franz-Xaver Steiner (born July 13, 1924 in Ried-Brig ; † January 1, 2010 in Brig ; resident in Ried-Brig) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

Life

Steiner studied after school attendance law and was subsequently as a lawyer active and notary. He began his political career early on in the CVP, which he represented in the Grand Council of the Canton of Valais between 1961 and 1973 .

In 1973 he was elected to the State Council . Initially it was head of the building department until 1981 and then until 1985 the department for social affairs as well as justice and police. During his tenure as Councilor for Construction, the development of mountain villages fell through the construction of roads and in particular the Mittal Tunnel , completed in 1985 , which bypasses the narrow and steep section of the lower Lötschental between Gampel and Goppenstein and 4.2 kilometers through the mountainside between Hohtenn and Goppenstein of the Hohgleifen leads. As the head of the social department, he advocated the expansion of workshops for the disabled in the canton of Valais.
