Frank Blees

Frank Blees (born October 3, 1959 in Neunkirchen / Saar ) is a German opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Frank Blees studied with Erika Köth, Gladys Kuchta, Birgit Nilsson and Walter Berry, among others.

After his first engagements at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern and Stadttheater St. Pölten, he was a member of the Opera Forum Jong in Enschede from 1988 to 1990 and then worked as a freelancer.

Concerts and opera performances led him a. a. to Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, Lübeck, Santiago de Chile, Berlin (Philharmonie), Tiflis, Amsterdam, Zurich, Helsinki, Vienna (Konzerthaus), Lisbon, Munich (Philharmonie im Gasteig), Luxembourg and Cologne (Philharmonie). He had guest contracts a. at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, at the Leipzig Opera, at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, Bielefeld Theater, Trier Theater and with Opera Zuid Maastricht.

His extensive repertoire includes Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro , Papageno, Sarastro and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte , Don Pizarro in Fidelio , Dulcamara in L'elisir d'amore , Stadinger in Der Waffenschmied , Biterolf in Tannhäuser , Wotan in Das Rheingold , Filippo in Don Carlos , Dr. Falke and Frank in Die Fledermaus , the Aquarius in Rusalka , the father in Hansel and Gretel , Sharpless in Madame Butterfly and animal tamer and athlete in Lulu and Il Conte Robinson in Domenico Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto , Nardo in Mozart's La finta giardiniera , Robinson in a novel Haubenstock-Ramatis Amerika, Bär Brummel in Krzysztof Meyers The enchanted brothers and Dr. Austin Sloper in Thomas Pasatieri's Washington Square.

Since the 2007/2008 season he has been a member of the ensemble of the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin, where he played Zsupán in The Gypsy Baron in 2004 and performed as Conte di Monterone in Rigoletto at the 2005 Castle Festival . In Schwerin he was among others as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Don Basilio in Der Barbier von Sevilla , Komtur in Don Giovanni , Frère Laurent in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette , Peter in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel , Plumkett in Friedrich von Flotow's Martha and as Duke Bluebeard to experience in Béla Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's castle . Frank Blees performed several times at the Lübeck Theater as Wotan in Das Rheingold and as Sarastro, and in Altenburg / Gera he appeared repeatedly as Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville .

Since January 2010 he has played the title role in Richard Wagner's The Flying Dutchman at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin for the first time .
