Probst Franz Uptmoor (born July 7, 1897 in Nordlohne near Lohne (Oldenburg) , † May 2, 1978 ) was a pastor in Steinfeld (Oldenburg) . He gained notoriety through his participation in the cross fight .

Life

Franz Uptmoor attended the Antonianum grammar school in Vechta and, on his return from the First World War, studied theology in Münster. He was ordained a priest on Christmas 1924 . In the following years he worked as a chaplain in the parishes of Thüle , Osterfeine , Emstek and Lutten . From 1932 to 1940 he was chaplain at the chapel in Sevelten . There he gained notoriety when he took a clear position in the cross fight in the autumn of 1936. As a former World War I soldier, he delivered a sermon that motivated both soldiers and the population to resist. Due to his resistance, Kaplan Uptmoor was exposed to the Gestapo observation , which afflicted him and many families. The 40th anniversary of the universal struggle Franz Uptmoor was Bishop Henry Tenhumberg for " Probst appointed honorary".

From 1940 to 1972 Franz Uptmoor was pastor in the parish of St. Johannes Baptist ( Steinfeld, Oldenburg ). He was the first citizen of Steinfeld to be granted honorary citizenship.
