Franz Ursinus

Franz Ursinus (actually Franz Bär ; also Franz Ursinus von Nicopolis ; * July 24, 1569 in Glogau , Kingdom of Bohemia ; † November 16, 1615 in Breslau ) was from 1614 to 1615 titular bishop of Nicopolis ( Nicopolitanus ) and auxiliary bishop in Breslau .

Life

His parents were Franz Bär, notary of the Glogau Collegiate Foundation , and Anna, née Habicht. Franz, who latinized his family name Bär in Ursinus , studied philosophy at the Charles University in Prague . From 1589 to 1593 he studied theology as an alumne of the Collegium Germanicum in Rome, which he completed with a doctorate in theology . He was ordained a priest on September 19, 1592. After returning to Silesia he was in 1593 canon in Wroclaw, where he 1602 Domkantor and 1612 on papal recommendation to Provost rise. From 1601 he was also a canon at the Glogauer Stift.

On July 21, 1614 he was named titular bishop of Nicopolis and appointed auxiliary bishop in Breslau. He was ordained bishop on November 27, 1614 by the Archbishop of Prague Jan Lohelius in the church of the Strahov Premonstratensian Monastery . Less than a year later, Franz Ursinus died in Breslau. His body was buried in the Breslau Cathedral .
