Franz Wachter (archivist)

Franz Wachter (born March 21, 1853 in Ludwigslust , † March 30, 1923 in Aurich ) was a German historian and archivist .

Life

After passing the Abitur examination at Parchimer Friedrich-Franz Gymnasium in Easter 1874, Wachter studied geography and history in Rostock and Halle . After his doctorate as Dr. phil. In 1879 he joined the Prussian archives service and initially worked as an archivist in Breslau , where he married. He worked temporarily in Düsseldorf, but could not really settle in there and initially returned to Breslau. In 1897 he was offered a position as the first senior archivist in the Prussian State Archives in Aurich , which he accepted and filled in until 1921. He worked in the new building with three employees and occasional temporary help, the state archive holdings were also supplemented by noteworthy private deposits from the East Frisian landscape and the Inn- and Knyphausen family .

Wachter also wrote articles for the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie .
