Franz Weiß (born May 5, 1903 in Munich ; † June 1, 1982 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) was a painter who mainly worked in the Allgäu region and in Munich. The versatile artist was also a facade and interior designer, designed sculptural decorations and advertising graphics.

Life

After Franz Weiß had studied in Munich and worked in a studio , he moved to Kempten in 1923, but kept a studio in Munich for a long time. From the end of the 1940s he designed the posters for the Allgäu Festival for a long time . In addition to this work, he shaped the cityscape of Kempten, but also other cities such as Bad Wörishofen and Füssen with facade paintings. In Kempten you can still find numerous houses, e.g. For example, on new buildings on Bahnhofstrasse, Hildegardplatz , Gerberstrasse , Bäckerstrasse or on Schumacherring you can see paintings he designed. On the Schwabenweg he created z. B. the portraits of the Seven Swabians . He also painted the picture of Heinrich von Kempten on the Kempten town hall . In the Lindenberg School he designed the atrium with scenes from Roman Kempten. He also painted the interior of the Müßiggengelzunfthaus .

In 1954, Franz Weiß worked on the interior renovation and redesign of the city ​​theater in Kempten. He designed the elaborate ceiling rose and painted over the battered theater curtain with the dance of the muses by Franz Sales Lochbihler . White also designed the Kornhaussaal .

In addition to Kempten, he also worked in Munich , Wangen , Füssen , Immenstadt and Bad Wörishofen .

Franz Weiß died in Kempten in 1982. He was artistically active until shortly before his death. In the course of his professional life he trained numerous apprentices, most of whom were active as artists or restorers, e. B. the painter and caricaturist Manfred Küchle , who draws the "Balthes" for the Allgäuer Zeitung .
