from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Xaver Marmon (born February 21, 1879 in Sigmaringen ; † December 1, 1963 there ) was a German sculptor and altar builder.

Life

Marmon was the son of the sculptor Franz Xaver Marmon (1832–1878). His father was the owner of the church art workshop Marmon and died before his birth. The company was initially continued by the widow. In 1895 he began an apprenticeship in the family business, but in the same year he went to the arts and crafts school in Strasbourg , where he mainly learned from Albert Muschweck (1857-1919). In 1897 he went to Munich, where he enrolled at the art academy in 1902 . He studied with Jakob Bradl , Syrius Eberle and Wilhelm von Rümann . In 1904/05 he returned to the family business in Sigmaringen as an “academic sculptor”, which he now ran with his brother Alfons (1873–1928), after whose death he took over sole management. From 1908 to 1937 it included a branch workshop in Switzerland.

Marmon married Wilhelmine Frick from Sigmaringen in August 1890. The son Franz Marmon (1908–1954) became a lawyer.

Works

A division of individual works between the brothers Franz Xaver and Adolf is usually not possible, they were all made in the Marmon art workshop and are often only listed under their names.

For a list of the work in the workshop, see the Marmon art workshop .
