Jakob Bradl the Younger (born December 14, 1864 in Munich , † September 14, 1919 in Ettal ) was a sculptor of the "southern German historicism ".

Life

Bradl learned in the Munich wood carver and sculpture workshop of his father Jakob Bradl the Elder († 1888) on Stiglmaierplatz and with Syrius Eberle at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts . He mainly worked for church clients, also as a painter and designer of church windows, but also created puppet figures for Paul Brann's art theater . He made figural stucco reliefs and designed the Christmas crib in the Stollwerck mausoleum in Hohenfried. In 1906 he was appointed royal professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1914 to 1918 he directed the wood carving school in Oberammergau . His students include Max Heilmaier and Georg Wrba .

Bradl died of a stroke in 1919 . His grave is in the Westfriedhof in Munich-Moosach .

A portrait of Bradl painted by Leo Samberger is now in the possession of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung .
