Franz Xaver Reitterer , pseudonym: Franz von Friedberg (born September 21, 1868 in Friedberg ( Austria ), † July 29, 1932 in Budweis ) was an Austrian writer and politician.

Life

Franz Xaver Reitterer attended from 1881 to 1887, supported by the castle owner of Bärnegg in Elsenau , Constantia Kiendler , the episcopal boys' seminar in Graz and the Jesuit college in Kalksburg .

He initially worked as court master for Count Salburg and D'Avernas in Graz, wrote for Peter Rosegger's Heimgarten and wrote his own works (D'Hausnoda, a swank in Styrian dialect, 1894).

In 1897 he took over the management of an indebted printing and publishing company in Budweis and in 1911 founded the Moldavia publishing company . As the editor of the weekly newspaper Der Dorfbote (circulation in 1932: 50,000 copies), he was very committed to the farming community. With the appeal “Farmers are united!” He founded the Austrian Farmers 'Union in 1898 , which was renamed the German-Austrian Farmers' Union in 1900 . This was followed in 1901 by the establishment of the German Peasant Party in the Reichsrat , and in 1905 by the German Agrarian Party , as its member he moved to the Bohemian Landtag in 1908 .

In World War I served as an officer Reitterer and wrote in 1918 the "hinterland warriors" publication in the field. In 1922 the Moldavia publishing house celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Reitterer died on July 29, 1932 at the age of 64 and is buried in the Ottilienfriedhof in Budweis. During his life Reitterer was closely connected to his hometown Friedberg (Styria) and also wrote a two-volume history of his hometown (Contributions to a history of the city and the district of Friedberg in Styria - Budweis: Moldavia, 1932).

He had bought the house where he was born in Friedberg and later built the “Reittererhaus” on the Hilm. Due to his services to his hometown, Franz Xaver Reitterer was given honorary citizenship of the city of Friedberg and the former Mittelgasse was named after him.

In 1932 he became an honorary member of the Marko-Germania Vienna fraternity .
