Franciscan monastery Lügde
The Franciscan monastery in Lügde was a branch of the Franciscan observants in Lügde , today the district of Lippe , North Rhine-Westphalia . The monastery with the patronage of St. Liborius existed from 1735 to 1812. The square baroque building complex with the now secular church as the south wing was built between 1749 and 1756 according to plans by Franz Christoph Nagel . It is largely preserved.
history
From foundation to dissolution
In the 18th century, Lügde was an exclave of the Paderborn Monastery , surrounded by Protestant territories. Michael Nueber , provost of the collegiate monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Brno , a native of Lügder, donated two houses from his family property to the Jesuits in 1714 in front of the north gate of the city on the road to the county of Pyrmont . The foundation of the Jesuits failed, however, possibly due to resistance from the magistrate , and they left the donation to the Franciscans in 1734. They founded a convent there and, with permission from Paderborn (1739) and after collecting the necessary funds, built the convent buildings from 1749–1752 and the St. Liborius Church from 1753–1756.
The portal inscription under the statue of the patron saint says:
D [EO] O [PTIMO] M [AXIMO] |
“To the best and greatest God. - |
The convent consisted of three fathers and five lay brothers . Her main task was pastoral care and missions in the neighboring Protestant areas as far as Hameln and Rinteln . They also ran a one-class elementary school and were active in charities .
The royal Westphalian government abolished the monastery in 1812 and sold the buildings.
The buildings after the repeal
The monastery church, in the immediate vicinity of the parish church of St. Marien , was profaned. The buildings then served primarily as storage rooms. In 1859 the Catholic parish bought it and converted it into a hospital with financial support from the city. A community of the poor servants of Christ came to Lügde for the care service .
In 1958 the hospital was closed. Until 1970, part of the building served as a private retirement home. 1974–1975 and 1997–1999 renewed renovation work was carried out by the parish. Since then, the monastery complex has housed the parish and youth home, a kindergarten and a day care center for the elderly and serves as a framework for cultural events.
