Franz Christoph Nagel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Christoph Nagel (born March 12, 1699 in Rietberg ; † August 7, 1764 in Paderborn ) was a German builder of the Baroque era .

Life

Nagel was a contemporary of Johann Conrad Schlaun , with whom he visited the Theodorianum in Paderborn almost at the same time (until 1715) . It is not yet known where he received his training as an architect. On the one hand, his works show clear French influences, but on the other hand they owe significant suggestions to buildings that were built in Austria and southern Germany.

From around 1725, Nagel worked as a court and country architect in the Prince Diocese of Paderborn . He was responsible for the entire construction industry in the Hochstift and was responsible for building roads, paths and bridges as well as regulating rivers and streams and building churches and stables. His first secured work was created in 1729 with the Marstall in Neuhaus Castle . Here he also appeared as a garden architect.
