Freckenhorster district

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Freckenhorster Circle is a Catholic priestly movement and was founded in Freckenhorst in 1969 as a result of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). He advocates the modernization and democratization of the Catholic Church in Germany. It sees itself as a reform group within the church and was initially a circle of only priests, to which lay people have also belonged since the mid-1970s.

history

The circle tried to implement the resolutions of the Second Vatican Council in the Catholic Church in Germany, especially in the dioceses. Decisive were the resolutions of the Joint Synod of the Dioceses in the Federal Republic of Germany (1971–1975). Is criticized u. a. that the resolutions of the Diocesan Forum Münster (1994–1997) had been shelved without consequences.

Positions

Within the church, the Freckenhorster Kreis advocates a fundamental structural change in the Catholic Church to implement the decrees of the Second Vatican Council. Instead of centralism, he calls for a shared responsibility of all the baptized for the church and society. The following areas of work are therefore defined:

  1. to consolidate the ecclesiastical office as a service office
  2. the creation of opportunities for all baptized people to participate in the leadership of the Catholic Church
  3. to develop the community as a place of "believing in one another" and "living together" and as a place of encounter with society and the world
  4. to strengthen ecumenical dialogue on an equal footing and to enter into dialogue with other Christian denominations and with people of other faiths

In October 2017, the Freckenhorster district demands the approval of blessing services for same-sex couples .

Known members

Karl Rahner , Professor of Dogmatics and the History of Dogma in Münster from 1967 to 1971, did not belong to the Freckenhorster Circle, but was close to him and his founding members.
