Paul Schladoth

Paul Schladoth (born January 22, 1927 in Remscheid-Lennep ; † September 26, 2012 in Münster ) was a German Catholic theologian and university professor .

Life

Paul Schladoth was born as the son of the post office clerk Paul Schladoth and his wife Martha, geb. Dinslage, born. After studying pedagogy , theology , philosophy and psychology in Münster and Lucerne, he was on August 6, 1952 at the Münster Cathedral by Bishop Michael Keller for ordained priests . Afterwards Schladoth worked as a pastor in several places in the diocese, initially as a chaplain in Burgsteinfurt , Münster , Telgte and Ahaus and as a religion teacher at the Arnoldinum high school in Burgsteinfurt. In 1955 he became chaplain of the Catholic student community in the Collegium Marianum in Münster, later trainee lawyer in Münster and chaplain at the Thomas-More-Kolleg. In 1957 he became a chaplain in the St. Rochus Hospital in Telgte, later again a trainee student in Münster and a chaplain in the mother house of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Mauritz . In 1959, Schladoth moved to the girls' grammar school in Ahaus as a student assistant.

In 1960 Schladoth received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Munich. After his work as rector at the Ahauser Canisius-Stift, he was a teacher at the Marienschule in Münster from 1961 to 1965 and was also the director of the German student dormitory. In 1964 Schladoth became head of teaching at grammar schools at the state study seminar in Recklinghausen, which was then attached to the Petrinum grammar school .

From 1966 Schladoth worked at various universities in Münster: in 1966 he switched to teaching at the University of Education in Münster , where he was appointed professor of Catholic theology and didactics in 1967. In 1971 he was appointed full professor for Catholic theology and didactics at the Pedagogical University of Westphalia-Lippe (Münster department); there he also held the office of dean of the faculty for several years .

With the integration of the University of Education into the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster in 1980, Schladoth switched to the Institute for Teacher Training at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of Münster. At the end of the winter semester 1991/92 Schladoth retired .

He lived in Münster until his death. Paul Schladoth died on September 26, 2012, shortly after his Diamond Jubilee as a priest at the age of 85.

Act

Schladoth has been involved in a variety of ways right up to the end, for example in various committees of the German Catechists' Association , as a member of the Priest Council of the Diocese of Münster and the Diocesan Forum. Even after his retirement he held lectures at the University of Münster as well as numerous lectures in religious adult education and worked as a pastor in the St. Mauritz parish in Münster.

The main topics of his academic work were teaching the faith and teacher training. At the University of Education in Münster, Schladoth built up and expanded teacher training in the field of Catholic theology and has been involved in teacher training for many years. Schladoth worked on numerous religious books.

After his retirement, Schladoth also dealt with the changes in the image of faith and God in old age and in 2005 published the book “Faith in Age”.
