Nurses from the Regulated Third Order of St. Francis
The Nurses of the Regulated Third Order of St. Francis are a religious community within the regulated Third Order of St. Francis . It was founded on July 2, 1844 by Johann Christoph Bernsmeyer in Telgte and is also known as the Franciscan Sisters of Münster St. Mauritz or Mauritz Sisters for short .
history
The parent company was relocated from Telgte to St. Mauritz near Münster on October 19, 1853 . Since October 2, 1901, the religious community has been subject to papal law. In 1997 the St. Franziskus-Stiftung Münster was founded, into which the hospitals that had previously been run independently were incorporated. At the same time the Tauwerk eV association was established in Berlin, a hospice service especially for seriously ill and dying people with AIDS and their relatives.
The Franciscan Sisters of Münster St. Mauritz include religious provinces in currently five countries: In addition to a German, there are Polish, American, Japanese and Indian provinces with different numbers of convents, each under the direction of a provincial superior. Sister Margarete Ulager has been Superior General since 2018. The congregation has around 700 sisters around the world.
