Fred Dutton (jazz musician)

Frederic M. "Fred" Dutton (born April 26, 1928 in San José , California ) is an American jazz musician ( bass , bassoon , contrabassoon ).

He studied music from 1947 to 1955 at State College in San José and was a member of Dave Brubeck's first quartet (1951), where he played bass and bassoon. He also recorded with Brubeck and as a member of the Chamber Jazz Sextet, which was founded on the model of the Modern Jazz Quartet and existed from 1956 to 1958. In 1958 he was in the Joe Castro Trio and performed in Europe with Bent Jädig , Romano Mussolini and Hans Koller .

He took u. a. with Stan Getz . Tom Lord recorded 13 recording sessions from 1951 to 1963.
