Fred Rudolph Etchen (born September 25, 1884 in Coffeyville , † November 6, 1961 in Phoenix ) was an American sports marksman .
successes
Fred Etchen took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris in a trap . In the team competition, he took first place with the US team ahead of Canada and Finland. With a total of 363 points and thus three points ahead, the Americans, whose team also consisted of Frank Hughes , John Noel , Clarence Platt , Samuel Sharman and William Silkworth , narrowly secured the gold medal. Etchen was the fourth best shooter on the team with 89 points. In the individual competition, he finished 24th with this number of points.
Etchen won many titles at the state level. He wrote a book on clay pigeon shooting and helped found the American Trapshooting Association . During the Second World War he taught shooting coaches in the armed forces' shooting schools.
