Investor Fraud and Conviction

In 1918, Silkworth was named President of the Consolidated Stock Exchange of New York . Five years later, he was forced to resign after irregularities in his finances became apparent. For example, with an annual salary of $ 10,000, there was a total of $ 123,000 in Silkworth's account. On May 28, 1924, two days before leaving for the Olympic Games, he was charged with investor fraud. After Silkworth's return from Paris there was a court hearing in which he was found guilty on November 29, 1929. He was sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of several thousand US dollars. He was released on parole after three months in prison.
