Fred Frohberg (born October 27, 1925 in Halle (Saale) , † June 1, 2000 in Leipzig ) was a German pop singer .

Frohberg was a versatile artist who had a musical education. Because of his hits, he was very popular in the GDR and reached a large audience with his Fred Frohberg Ensemble . Frohberg also had various appearances in DFF programs such as Da lacht der Bär or Ein Kessel Buntes and played several small roles in DEFA music films .

career

In 1937 Frohberg became a choirboy in the Stadtsingechor Halle . As a 19-year-old soldier in World War II , he lost a leg. From 1946 to 1947 he studied singing and guitar at the Thuringian State Conservatory in Erfurt. After winning a singing competition in his hometown, Frohberg received a permanent contract with the Rundfunk-Tanzorchester Leipzig under the direction of Kurt Henkels in 1948 , to which he remained loyal for ten years - interrupted by tours to the Federal Republic of Germany and Eastern Europe. With this orchestra he recorded his first record Prelude d'amour ( Bruno Droste ) in 1949 , which was published by Amiga . From 1961 to 1963 he took part in international hit festivals and won the international hit festival of the Baltic Sea countries in Rostock in 1962 with the title Am Kai you are waiting . With the founding of Ensemble 67 (also known as the Fred Frohberg Ensemble), he interrupted his solo career for ten years from 1967, but continued it in the 1980s and 1990s, before retiring on June 1, 2000 after a serious illness passed away.

In 1961 he received the Art Prize of the GDR and in 1984 the National Prize of the GDR III. Art and literature class. The Fred Frohberg Foundation was established in Berlin in 2007 in his memory .
