Fred L. Turner

Fred Leo Turner (born January 6, 1933 in Des Moines , Iowa , † January 7, 2013 ) was an American manager .

Life

Fred L. Turner was one of the first employees, later a partner, of Ray Kroc , founder of McDonald's Corporation , in 1956 . Turner was responsible for international business. In 1968 he became COO and in 1977 he followed Kroc as CEO of McDonald's, a position he held until 1997. From 1990 to 2004 he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board, then Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Under Turner's leadership, McDonald's expanded to 31,000 branches in 118 countries.

In 1961 he initiated the McDonald's Hamburger University.

Turner also served as a director for Aon Corporation , Baxter International and WW Grainger . In 1991 he received the Horatio Alger Award from the American author of the same name .

Fred L. Turner left three daughters.
