Fred Lasswell

Fred Lasswell (born July 25, 1916 in Kennett , Missouri , † March 3, 2001 in Tampa , Florida ) was an American comic artist .

life and work

Lasswell started out as a sports cartoonist for the Tampa Daily Times . Barney Google draftsman Billy DeBeck discovered the then 17-year-old man and hired him as an assistant. For the next few years they worked closely together. Around 1934, a new character came into the Barney Google universe: Snuffy Smith . After DeBeck's death in 1942, Lasswell took over the work on the comic strip Barney Google and Snuffy Smith . Lasswell brought new characters into the series and put the focus more and more towards the Hintlerwäldler Snuffy Smith .

Lasswell, who was the father of three sons and one daughter, lived in Tampa for many years. In 1963 he received the Reuben Award for Barney Google .
