Frederick soup
Frederick Roy Soup (born February 22, 1940 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American philosopher of science . In 2000 he was retired as Professor of Philosophy at the University of Maryland, College Park . Immediately after his retirement, he moved to Texas Tech University . Since 2002 he has headed the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures there .
Studies and scientific interests
Since studying mathematics at the University of California, Riverside ( BA 1962) and philosophy in Michigan , Ann Arbor, ( MA 1964, PhD 1967), he has taught and researched at various renowned universities.
His scientific work on the theory of science (especially scientific modeling), epistemology , logic and the history of science have worldwide significance . He is a representative of the model theoretical view in the theory of science. He was best known for his books The Structure of Scientific Theories (1977) and The Semantic Conception of Theories and Scientific Realism (1989).
In addition to his interest in philosophy of science and logic, he also works on Philosophical Theology and Philosophy of Gender . Among other things, he taught courses on Gay & Lesbian Philosophy . Most recently he has been working with James A. Yorke on a computer model of the spread of HIV .
