Fredrik Zachariasen

Fredrik Zachariasen (born June 14, 1931 in Chicago , † December 9, 1999 in Pasadena ) was an American theoretical physicist who dealt with elementary particle physics .

Zachariasen studied at the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in 1951 and a doctorate in 1956 at Caltech . He then went to Stanford University ( Assistant Professor ), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley , before returning to Caltech in 1960, where he became a professor and stayed for the rest of his career. In 1960 he became a Sloan Research Fellow .

He was a member of the JASON Defense Advisory Group , where he worked with Walter Munk on acoustic detection of submarines.
