Fredy Hämmerli

Alfred Hämmerli (born July 22, 1952 in Zurich ) is a Swiss journalist and author .

Life

Fredy Hämmerli studied journalism, German and economics and graduated with a licentiate . He then attended the Ringier School of Journalism . Shortly after his training, Hämmerli published the book “The Fairy Tale of Clean Switzerland” as a co-author, together with Kurt Brandenberger, Urs P. Gasche and Hanspeter Guggenbühl.

His first job was with Roger Schawinski's new act . This was followed by three years as a freelance journalist in the Index press office, specializing in economics and ecology. He then gained editorial experience with the balance sheet and was news chief and deputy editor-in-chief at the Berner Zeitung for seven years . Fredy Hämmerli then set up the Bundeshaus editorial office for Cash and a news office for the federal government . As a member of the management of the Berner Tagblatt Medien (today Espace Media Groupe ) he was responsible for their electronic media, namely for the development of TeleBärn. Then he took over the editorial management at K-Tipp , built up the television production as managing director and editor-in-chief for its sister company Xproductions and founded the investor magazine K-Geld. From 1994 to 2008 he was a member of the jury of the IT Journalism Prize (Bedag / Eugen).

In 2000, Hämmerli took over the management of Swisscontent, a content provider for online and print media in Zurich (Switzerland) with a focus on business, finance, real estate, health and lifestyle with around 40 employees (2013). In 2003, Hämmerli took over Swisscontent AG. In 2007 Daniel Kaczynski took part in the share capital of Swisscontent and has been a co-owner and partner with equal rights since 2009. He has been the sole owner since 2013. Swisscontent is the publisher of the HE Inside magazine for consumer electronics retailers and the women's business magazine "Women in Business".

Uncovered scandals

Fredy Hämmerli uncovered several scandals and landed Scoops.

  • In 1979, for example, he discovered that there were hundreds of wealthy millionaires living in Switzerland who did not pay the state any income taxes. This gave rise to media hype, which ultimately led to tightening of cantonal tax laws.
  • In 1981 he revealed that the National Council, SVP tribune Christoph Blocher had quietly bought up the shares in Oswald-Holding, which controlled the majority of the plastics group Ems-Chemie in Domat-Ems, Switzerland.
  • In 2009, Hämmerli brought to light that the major Swiss bank UBS had to liquidate its flagship Global Property Fund, a real estate fund with commercial properties formerly valued at 10 billion dollars. Over 100,000 wealthy private clients of UBS were affected.
