The 1970 European Free Game Championship was the 16th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from September 7th to 12th, 1970 in Saint-Vincent (Aosta Valley) . It was the first free game European championship in Italy.
history
Even before the last game against defending champion Henk Scholte , Bochum's Klaus Hose had the title. Pants only lost the first game against the Belgian. Then he played a sovereign tournament. There were three wins in the final round, with only the game against his compatriot Siegfried Spielmann with 500: 414 in two recordings. Spielmann gambled away his title chances in the preliminary round with two defeats against Johann Scherz and Léo Corin . Klaus Hose gave Germany the first title in the free game at a European Championship. Spielmann has already won his fifth medal since 1955.
mode
The game was played in two preliminary round groups with five players "everyone against everyone" up to 500 points. The top three in each group made it to the finals. Results of the eliminated players were included in the final round and counted towards the final ranking. Places seven to 10 were played out. Extended series were counted.
