The Freiheitshöhe is a hill between Zöblitz and Pobershau in the Ore Mountains in Saxony . The 649 m high hill, overgrown with meadows and forest, offers a good view of Zöblitz and the surrounding area and consists of two peaks, the so-called Leichenbruch and the Arnoldbüschel.

view

To the north you can see the serpentine stone town of Zöblitz as well as the Niederlauterstein castle ruins and the wooded castle hill. The Morgensternhöhe and parts of the Sprung can be seen in an easterly direction. In the north you can see Pobershau, slightly hidden behind a hill, and in the valley the Schwarze Pockau . You can see the foothills of Marienberg if you look to the west.

Historical background

The hill was previously used as a quarry, hence the name Leichenbruch, which, however, was previously related to another quarry and is therefore incorrect. At the time of National Socialism, the quarry was used as a shooting range and a hut was built. After the Second World War it was demolished and the quarry was used as a scrap yard in the GDR. After the fall of the Wall it was closed and the hill was planted with trees.
