The open-air museum Vorau ("Museumsdorf Vorau") in Vorau in Styria shows historical farmhouses with outbuildings as well as historical objects of everyday life.

On the almost 1  hectare area of ​​the open-air museum , old buildings from rural areas, most of which were removed from eastern Upper Styria, have been faithfully rebuilt. The inventory, which surrounds a central square, comprises around twenty objects, including a farm, numerous outbuildings and field boxes, a mill, a forge and several forest workers' huts. The houses are supplemented by old furnishings and farm tools.

Collections

In addition to the buildings, the open-air museum shows old equipment, machines and tools from handicraft trades that are becoming increasingly rare: carpenters, joiners, cooper, wagner, shoemaker, stove, linen weaver, saddler, rope maker, binder, clapboard maker and book printer. Furthermore, a historical medical house pharmacy, old surgical equipment from the Vorau hospital and a fully equipped dentist's office can be seen.

history

The open-air museum, founded in 1979, is now the second largest museum in Styria. It is run by an association.
