Puchegg is a former municipality with 539 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and cadastral municipality in the judicial district of Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld in Styria ( Austria ). As of January 1, 2015, it has merged with the communities of Vorau , Riegersberg , Schachen bei Vorau and Vornholz as part of the Styrian community structure reform , the new community will continue to use the name "Vorau".

Geographical location
Puchegg is located in Joglland approx. 13 km northwest of the district capital Hartberg . The community is located between the Pöllauer Tal nature park and the Voraubach valley, a tributary of the Lafnitz . The highest point in the municipality is the "Pongratzer Kogel" , which belongs to the Masenberg and is 1248 m above sea level. A. The community is drained by the Weißenbach in the west and the Steinbach in the east.
In contrast to other municipalities, Puchegg does not have a center that is characterized by more densely populated areas. The community consists mostly of homesteads that are spread over the entire Wutzlviertel and the Lindenviertel.

history
In April 1945 the Red Army reached the municipality and took it a few days later. Numerous houses burned down in Puchegg.

Culture and sights
Sports
Puchegg is a rural community with extensive forest areas. Accordingly, the community has numerous hiking trails, some of which offer a beautiful view of the Joglland.
Economy and Infrastructure

Puchegg is located off the main roads, there is not even through traffic in the municipality. The south autobahn A2 from Vienna to Graz is approx. 25 km away and can be reached via the Friedberg / Pinggau junction (95). The distance to Wechsel Straße B 54 from Wiener Neustadt to Hartberg is approx. 15 km.
Puchegg is not connected to the railway network. There is no train station within ten kilometers.
The Graz Airport is 80 km away.
