history

Reinberg

When the Vorau Abbey was founded in 1163, the Reinberg area was not yet settled. Towards the end of the 12th century, the Stubenbergers built a castle at the confluence of the Lafnitz and Voraubach rivers, below which the village of Reinberg arose. The name Ruomberch (Ruhmberg, Ehrenberg) is first mentioned in a document in 1217. As a result of disputes between the Vorau monastery and the Stubenbergers, the monastery had to cede the area of today's cadastral community for the purpose of fortifying the border. Settlement began in the 13th century with the establishment of forest hooves.

When Wulfing von Stubenberg set out on the crusade in June 1217 , he pledged his property to the Göß monastery in case he died in the crusade. This is testified by the brothers Wulfing and Wolfher von Reinberg. Wolfher von Reinberg moved in 1218 with Leopold VI. to Palestine . As a compensation, Heinrich von Reinberg gave the monastery a hat in Reinberg in 1252.

In the period that followed, Reinberg frequently changed hands. First it came to the Krumbacher , later to Ulrich von Pergau. In 1366 Reinberg was sold to the Stadecker family before the castle fell to the Thalberg rulership at the beginning of the 15th century , with the castle's subjects spread over the northern Joglland.

The former castle no longer exists today. The Meierhof of the castle stood in the place of the Rotte Mayerhof. In the place of the castle there is now a church as the successor to the old castle chapel. The number of inhabitants in the village fell steadily and in 1822 was only six.

Riegersbach

The area of today's cadastral community of Riegersbach belonged to the Vorau monastery when it was founded in 1163, but was only cleared and settled in the 13th century. The settlement of Riegersbach is named after its founder, Provost Rudiger, who is mentioned in a document in Vorau from 1237 to 1240.

During the Middle Ages , the farms in the Riegersbach area had to pay taxes in cash and in kind (cheese, eggs, chickens) to the monastery. In addition, the farmers were obliged to labor .
