Frankness solver
Freimut Löser (born April 24, 1954 in Ostheim before the Rhön ) is a Germanic Medievalist. He holds the chair for German language and literature of the Middle Ages at the University of Augsburg .
academic career
Löser studied in the 1970s a. a. with Kurt Ruh German and English studies at the University of Würzburg . After the state examination, he worked as a research assistant and co-editor of the legal sum of Brother Berthold's at the University of Würzburg, a guest lecturer at the University of Texas in Austin and worked on the edition of Meister Eckhart's German works together with Georg Steer at the University of Eichstätt .
In 1988 he became Master Eckhart in Melk at the University of Würzburg with a dissertation . Studies on the editor Lienhart Peuger. With an edition of the treatise, Von der sel becomesichait vnd aigenschetzt Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as a university assistant at the Institute for English Philology (American Studies) at the University of Würzburg. This was followed by visiting professorships for English and American literature at the State University of New York in Albany. From 1994 to 1998, Löser headed the repertory research area of the sacred German-language literature of the Middle Ages and the early modern period in Central and Eastern Europe at the German Department of Heidelberg University . Then Löser worked on the interdisciplinary research project The Image of War in Change from the Late Middle Ages to the Early Modern Age at the University of Würzburg (headed by Horst Brunner).
In 2000 he completed his habilitation in Würzburg with the thesis History of Tradition and New Philology. Methodical variants in ancient German studies . After three professorships at the universities of Augsburg, Freiburg im Breisgau and Regensburg , he was appointed to the chair for German language and literature of the Middle Ages at the University of Augsburg in 2003.
Research priorities and offices
Löser is a founding member and since 2014 president of the international Meister-Eckhart-Gesellschaft. From 2007 to 2019 he was the second chairman of the Oswald von Wolkenstein Society . Since 2016, Löser has been in charge of the interacademic research project The Austrian Bible Translator at the University of Augsburg in collaboration with the research team of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (lead: Jens Haustein and Martin Schubert).
In terms of university politics, Löser was a member of the University Council of the University of Augsburg (2013–2017) and a member of the board of directors of the Jakob Fugger Center in Augsburg (2013–2019). From 2011 to 2013 he was dean of the philological and historical faculty at the University of Augsburg.
Löser's research focuses on poetry , minnesang (including the discovery of a song fragment by Walther von der Vogelweide ) and medieval prose ( Meister Eckhart , mysticism , German Bible translations from the Middle Ages, literature of the Teutonic Order ). In doing so, he devotes himself in particular to issues relating to the history of tradition, the philosophy of editions and the theory of editions (edition projects: brother Berthold's legal sum, critical editions on the works of Meister Eckhart, individual sermon editions in Lectura Eckhardi )
