The leisure traffic is a purpose of the trip , the trips with transportation during the time concerns.

General

In addition to leisure traffic , the purposes of travel also include training traffic ( school trips , school trips ), commuter traffic , business and official travel , shopping traffic and vacation traffic . They all have a place of origin and / or destination of the place of work , training facility , place of purchase, school , vacation place, apartment or some other place .

Components

For a large number of journeys there is no parallelism of outward and return journeys, for example in the case of "triangular journeys" between the home to the workplace, from there to shopping and only then back to the home. Holiday and leisure traffic decreased significantly between 2003 and 2017, but it remains the most important travel purpose. Business and official trips have increased significantly accordingly.

Traffic planning

The various purposes of the journey are objects of knowledge in traffic planning , because depending on the purpose of the journey, the willingness to accept longer queues ( traffic jams ) or diversions , for example, varies and has to be taken into account by the traffic planning.
