The Fridtjof Nansen (F310) is the lead ship of the frigate class of the same name of the Norwegian Navy .

The ship is named after Fridtjof Nansen , a Norwegian polar explorer and Nobel Prize winner .

Calls

On 26 February 2009, the decided Norwegian Parliament , at the current Operation Atalanta of the EU against piracy off the coast of Somalia to participate, and to that end Fridtjof Nansen in the Gulf of Aden send to. The ship arrived in the operational area in August 2009.

At the moment, Fridtjof Nansen is carrying out its order without its on- board helicopter , as the delivery of the new NH90 machines has been delayed. As a replacement for the missing helicopter, the ship has two fast, seaworthy rigid-hull inflatable boats .
