architecture

It is a half-timbered courtyard system with a Low German / Central German design language that surrounds an inner courtyard on four sides . On the street and diagonally reaching into the younger sidewalk , there is a gatehouse under a gable roof with a double-winged passage into the inner courtyard and the adjoining former service wing that extends to the east side of the inner courtyard.

A lower shed completes the development on the southeast side. The shed on the south side of the courtyard is the former bakery . On the west side, the two-storey residential building facing the Friedenstrasse, under a gable roof with a sloping roof on one side, delimits the inner courtyard.

The set-back residential building is a two-story, three-zone and transversely accessible half-timbered building . Tapped anchor beams, horizontal compartments , a few struts arranged on the upper floor and small-format, rectangular windows characterize the timber -framing effort on the courtyard side. There is also the entrance to the house with an old wooden door.

The lintel bar bears an inscription typical of Protestant Rheydt :

IN THE NAME OF GOD THE ALMIGHTY I HAVE ... RT HOSTER THIS HAVS LEAVE BAVEN IN THE YEAR 1738 THE 24TH

APRIL GIVE O LORD THAT WE MAY BAVE ZV YOUR HONOR THAT IT MAY BE IN OUR BLISS G H.

Hof, Traufwand and the windows of the upper floor are by far early and assisted by head straps eaves determined. Located at the south gable Abwalmung also shows lying compartments and small, through shutters to be closed window openings. To the west, the building has a roof that extends deep over the ground floor .

The back side has five window openings with shutters. In contrast, the street-side gable wall was subsequently faced with bricks. It also shows more modern windows dating from the 19th century, but also equipped with shutters and slightly arched windows. The commercial buildings follow the construction and design of the residential building. The large, lying compartments without cross bracing by struts are remarkable, giving the courtyard a uniform ambience. Covered with red pantiles -laid roof surfaces have tongued Strack type in places hips and ridges slate . The roof areas, which protrude far beyond the eaves walls, are supported by head straps. The inner courtyard is laid out with large basalt lava paving stones. The historical spatial relationships inside are partially legible.
