Friedhelm Fischer (born December 4, 1955 in Hanover ) is a former German mayor . Until 2014 he was responsible for the official business of the city of Langenhagen .

Since January 2015 he has been heading the Hanover division of the Lower Saxony state authority for road construction and transport.

After graduating with a degree in civil engineering, Friedhelm Fischer initially worked in various areas of road construction administration in Lower Saxony, for example in the six-lane expansion of federal motorway 2 . From 2001 he headed the road construction department in Lüneburg before he was elected mayor of the city of Langenhagen on November 1, 2006. In the mayoral election in 2014 he was defeated in a runoff election by CDU applicant Mirko Heuer , who took office in November.

Fischer, who is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany , became politically active as early as the early 1990s. After his election to the city ​​council , he took over the chairmanship of the urban planning and environment committee as well as the deputy chairmanship of the transport committee, and was council chairman from the beginning of 2005. In addition, he was a local councilor in the Krähenwinkel district , which he also lives in after his previous residence in Kaltenweide .

Friedhelm Fischer is married and has two adult children.
