Cemetery of Splendor ( Thai รัก ที่ ขอนแก่น , RTGS Rak thi Khon Kaen , "Love in Khon Kaen ", German TV title: "Friedhof der König") is a poetic film drama by the Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul that was released in 2015 and deals with topics such as Deals with life and death , sleep and wakefulness .

action

The film is about the housewife Jen, who volunteers in a school that has been converted into a small clinic and treats soldiers who have been stricken with a mysterious sleeping sickness. Among other things, the doctors use colored light tubes to alleviate the patient's nightmares. Jen herself has to walk with crutches because one of her legs is shorter than the other. She developed a special affection for one of her patients, the younger Itt. She has the feeling that she can “coordinate” with him, although he is initially unresponsive. When she washes him, he temporarily wakes up. Other patients also wake up temporarily, but just as suddenly fall back into a coma. Itt especially has waking moments when Jen is around. She visits a temple with her American partner Richard to light a candle for Itt's recovery. The goddesses of the temple meet Jen later in broad daylight in human form. Jen discovers Itt's notebook, in which he made strange notes. She suspects that the soldiers' dreams have something to do with the mythical old place, a former palace and later cemetery, below the clinic.

The young Keng is a medium that can read the thoughts and dreams of the sick in their sleep and communicates with their relatives for them. It also serves as a link between Jen and Itt. A long conversation between Jen and Keng, who has taken the position of Itt, takes up much of the second half of the film.
