Friedrich (Nassau-Weilburg)
Friedrich von Nassau-Weilburg (born April 16 July / April 26, 1640 greg. In Metz ; † September 19, 1675 in Weilburg ) was the ruling Count of Nassau-Weilburg from 1655 (1663) to 1675 .
biography
Friedrich (from the Walram line of the House of Nassau ) was born on April 26, 1640 in Metz. He was the son of Count Ernst Casimir von Nassau-Weilburg (1607–1655) and his wife Anna Maria von Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hachenburg (1610–1656).
Since his family had fled to Metz before the Thirty Years' War , he also spent the first years of his life there. After the war, the family returned to a devastated country, which Friedrich inherited in 1655. At first he was under the tutelage of his uncle Johann von Nassau-Idstein . With his marriage in 1663 he also became regent of the country.
Since 1672 the country was in fact at war again when in 1675 the count died of a riding accident. Count Johann Ludwig von Nassau-Ottweiler was given guardianship over the children .
family
On May 26, 1663 Friedrich married Christiane Elisabeth von Sayn-Wittgenstein-Homburg (1646–1678). She was the daughter of Count Ernst von Sayn-Wittgenstein-Homburg (1599–1649). The couple had the following three children:
- Johann Ernst (born June 13, 1664; † February 27, 1719) ⚭ 1683 Countess Marie Polyxena von Leiningen-Hartenburg (1662–1725)
- Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig (* August 21, 1665; † August 14, 1684); fallen in front of the oven
- Marie Christiane (born November 6, 1666 - † December 18, 1734)
The since 2000 as Grand Duke of Luxembourg reigning Henri of Nassau is the eight-time great-grandson of Friedrich von Nassau-Weilburg.
