Friedrich (Teschen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich von Teschen ( Fridrich Těšínský in Czech , Fryderyk cieszyński in Polish ; * around 1480–1483; † 1507 ) was Duke of Teschen , rector of the University of Vienna and dean of the Wroclaw Cathedral Chapter . He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piasts .

Life

Frederick's parents were Duke Casimir II and Johanna, daughter of Duke Viktorin from Opava , a son of the Bohemian King George of Podebrady .

Although Friedrich was the first-born son, who usually succeeded his father, his parents chose him for the spiritual profession. With the support of his father and other Silesian princes, Friedrich was to be appointed coadjutor of the Breslau bishop Johann Roth in 1501 with the right of succession. Because of the resistance of the Wroclaw Cathedral Chapter , this plan could not be implemented. The post of coadjutor sought by Friedrich received the non-Silesian Johannes V. Thurzo .

Friedrich then studied law at the University of Vienna. As a princely scholar , he was soon given an honorary degree and in 1503 the office of rector. Presumably with the support of his father, who continued to strive for a high spiritual office for Friedrich, he received the office of dean in the Breslau cathedral chapter , for which he is occupied in 1506. It is not known when he began to study in Italy. In June 1507 he died while studying in Siena .
