history

Launched in 1910

The besanewer Friedrich was launched at the end of August 1910 in Stade at the D. Roper's widow shipyard and was delivered to the owner C. Saul from Hechthausen in the same year . With a hull length of 19.55 meters (26.10 meters total length with jib boom ) and a width of 5.00 meters, the Ewer had a draft of 1.00 meters. An auxiliary engine was installed in 1927 . The ship was based in Hechthausen until 1947.

In 1947 Diedrich Schnackenberg from Bremervörde took over Friedrich for purchase on an annuity. At first, he and his wife mainly drove coal from Hamburg to Hemmoor and cement on the way back. From 1948 feed was transported from the Hamburg overseas port to the silos of the cooperatives in Uetersen and Elmshorn. A regular load in spring was Stackbusch for bank reinforcement, which was transported from Bremervörde to Cuxhaven, Glückstadt and the Osteriff. The Stackbusch was cut in winter by the farmers in the Bremervörde area, tied up with wire in manageable bundles and brought to the Bremervörde port by farm wagon, where it was collected into complete shiploads.

Extension 1962

Dietrich Schnackenberg had the Ewer extended by 6 meters in 1962, which almost doubled the cargo space . The extended Friedrich had a load capacity of 120 tons and was used as a barge after the conversion without masts . In 1979 Diedrich Schnackenberg was the last Bremen promoter to retire. The Friedrich was launched afterwards .

Dismantling from 1982

The ship went to the Hamburg couple Brigitte and Karl-Heinz Bölter at a scrap price in 1982, and they had it transferred to Hamburg. The Bölter couple restored the mizzenewer's original condition. For this purpose, the extension piece installed in 1962 was cut out again at the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde. The two masts were produced in-house work and with 150 square sails rigged . In 1994 the Friedrich came under sail to visit the old home port of Bremervörde.

Ship for the youth

In 2003, the association Schippergilde Friedrich eV Leer took over the mizzenewer with Leer as home port, which equipped the ship for passenger transport and modernized the nautical and technical equipment of the ship. The former cargo hold two separate emerged cabins and a spacious exhibition with a total of 12 beds and space for up to 23 day guests. The permanent crew consists of two people. Life-saving appliances for 30 people are available on board.

The Friedrich has a sail area of 188 square meters. The main engine , a Modag diesel , has an output of 60 hp. A generator set with a nominal output of around 11 kW with an on-board voltage of 220/380 volts as well as central heating and hot water is available on board.
