Friedrich Anton Gelshorn

Friedrich Anton Wenzeslaus Gelshorn [born as Kappen]. (* May 8, 1814 in Winterberg ; † June 3, 1875 in Wiesbaden ) was a Catholic priest and German politician.

Origin and occupation

Gelshorn was born as the son of the Winterberg traveling trader Anton Kappen (Klagges) and his wife Maria. After school he studied theology in Münster , Osnabrück and Paderborn and was ordained a priest there in 1838 . From 1839 he was parish administrator in Alt-Astenberg (near Winterberg), from 1840 vicar in Winterberg and from 1842 chaplain in Arnsberg before he came to Amelunxen in 1849 as parish administrator and later became a regular pastor. From 1854 he was provost in Meppen before he retired in 1861.

Political

During the revolution of 1848 Gelshorn was a co-founder of the Westphalian Church Gazette for Catholics and head of the Westphalian Volksblatt. At the same time he was a member of the Prussian National Assembly for the constituency of Arnsberg in 1848 and is counted among the Conservatives there. In 1850 he was a member of the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament for the constituency Höxter -Paderborn- Warburg .
