Friedrich Carl August Rücker (born September 18, 1773 in Neuhaldensleben , † May 28, 1837 in Berlin ) was a German bookseller and publisher .

Life

Friedrich Carl August Rücker was born in Neuhaldensleben as the son of a Prussian War and Tax Council. His father died very early, leaving the family penniless. He had three older siblings: two sisters and a blind brother.

He attended the Friedrichsgymnasium in Frankfurt (Oder) and then studied the camera subject at the Frankfurt University there .

After completing his studies, he worked for a few years as a trainee lawyer and in 1804 was employed as a secretary at the then Kurmark War and Domain Chamber , but had to say goodbye in 1809 due to administrative reforms, albeit with a small pension.

By 1816 he managed to make a small fortune, which he invested in running a publishing book trade . Here he took advantage of the fact that some important bookstores in Berlin were given up during this time and their publishing items were sold to the highest bidder. Due to his scientific knowledge and his adroit behavior, he was able to expand his business circle annually and in the following years a significant number of important works from almost all branches of science at that time appeared in his publishing house.

Over time, his health deteriorated, so in 1836 he decided to connect with a business partner, Max Püchler († May 14, 1872). On January 1, 1837, the bookstore was converted into Rücker & Püchler.

Friedrich Carl August Rücker was married twice, both marriages were childless. He left a widow.
