Schools in Frankfurt (Oder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the mid-1990s there were around 15,000 students in Frankfurt (Oder) ; in the 2008/2009 school year, the number was around 9,300. Of these, 2307 pupils attended primary school, 1231 one of the three comprehensive schools (including the Waldorf school), 294 the secondary school and 300 pupils the special schools. In addition, there were a total of 1625 high school students and 3518 graduates at both upper school centers.

History of the school system in Frankfurt (Oder)

It is not known when the first school opened in Frankfurt. The first documented reference dates from 1341, when Sabellus Seger, as principal of the school, signed a letter of complaint to the Pope . After that there was no reference to a school until 1425. This year, chapter 26 of the city book Wye eyn schulmeyster sine schule haldyn solle reports on the school system. A teacher then received two Czech groschen for a quarter of a year from each student . The students also paid wood , heater and window fees . However, they could be exempted from paying if they were economically unable to raise the money. In the school, where classes were held simultaneously in three clusters of named classes, reading, writing and Latin were taught. Arithmetic was not taught in the schoolhouse on the cemetery wall by the Marienkirche with only one classroom. Until the beginning of the 16th century, the school was neglected by the city and received little support from it or its citizens.

The specialty of the language support classes lies in the therapy-integrated lessons for the acquisition and development of oral and written language in connection with the promotion of perception , training of concentration , relaxation training and psychomotor skills . Lessons are given by trained special educators in small class frequencies . In addition, speech therapies are carried out in individual and group lessons.

At the school, regular classes and language support classes are formed at the same time. These run up to 4th grade. If the rehabilitation is successful , the pupils are schooled back to their local primary school as early as possible . After an assessment procedure, pupils with language problems are enrolled in the first grade for the area of speech or hearing, and students whose language problems are noticed during primary school, after a determination procedure for the language area, switch to school as lateral entrants. At the special school for those with language problems, teaching is based on the framework plan and the primary school's timetable. English is taught from grade 3 and as a meeting language from grade 1.

For pupils from the first grade there is the possibility of being looked after in the after-school care center. The school also offers a breakfast buffet. The costs are EUR 0.50 per day.

The Hansa-Schule is an all-day school that offers a wide range of learning opportunities. It is divided into the entry level , lower level , intermediate level , upper level and work level . The students go through 12 school years. The staff of the Hansa-Schule guarantees holistic , practical , action-oriented and differentiated learning as a suitable form of teaching , depending on the starting situation of each student .

Action-oriented teaching is the central form of teaching in which action goals are shown. Own exploration , experimentation , comparison , production or change should develop the ability of each individual to act . The lessons are planned in long-term, interdisciplinary projects. The support measures geared towards students are reflected in individual support plans. This planning is continuously documented, reflected on and updated. It is based on the teaching specifications of the Brandenburg framework plan for special schools for the mentally handicapped.

Classes are organized as class , course , individual and casual . In class lessons, all students take part in common lessons. In addition to common teaching goals, differentiated goals related to the individual student are also implemented. In the course , students with relatively the same skills in one or more learning areas take part. For students with severe disabilities, intensive support is provided in individual lessons . The aim is to introduce students to the classroom. Interdisciplinary casual lessons take into account natural learning situations that arise randomly and not planned.

These forms of organization are enforced by all teaching staff . They are equally responsible for planning and implementing the educational content. Together with the supervisors, community service providers and interns , they form a team .

The in-house therapy pool has a depth of 1.30 m and enables the teachers to support students with limited mobility. All water rats move and relax in the constantly warm water with a pleasant ambient temperature. The water crane lifts pupils who cannot walk into the pool. Anyone who is afraid of so much water will gradually get used to the relaxing element. Many have already learned to swim here.

August Bebel was the leader of the labor movement and co-founder of the SPD . Originally, the school was the Hindenburg School founded

Among other things, due to the refugees who poured into the city, the relocation of the Reichsbahndirektion east from Berlin to Frankfurt (Oder), a new district of the Paulinenhof was created in the west of the city . A new school had to be built in order to give the newly arrived residents educational opportunities as well as to meet the increased need for school rooms by increasing the six-level to the seven-level elementary school. This should take place in the new settlement, the then Hindenburgsstrasse. The architect Josef Gesing and the town planner Althoff made the design for the Hindenburg School . The brick shell was based on the Gothic architecture, for example of the Marienkirche and the town hall. The color of the interior was based on designs by the Berlin painter Sandfort . The heating system was a low-pressure hot water heater which was installed by Schulz & Krause . The total cost of the construction, which had 19 classrooms and 15 additional rooms, amounted to 150,000 Reichsmarks, which the city carried. The building had an adjoining gymnasium, twelve showers in the basement, with modern foot baths, a laundry room, a teaching room, an open space and a book room. The classrooms were 50 square meters. On the first floor, a room was set up as a chemistry room in which the tables were equipped with gas and electrical connections. The largest room in the school was the auditorium on the third floor with an area of around 300 m². To the side of the main building was the 231 m² gymnasium which at that time was covered with cork linoleum.

The high school opened in 1992. The school was named after the former trade union leader and social democrat Otto Brenner .

The grammar school took part in the model test performance profile classes, according to which students came to school after grade 4 and passed the Abitur after just 12 school years. Since the 2001/2002 school year, musical and artistic talents have been particularly encouraged in a class with a different organizational form. A regular student exchange took place with the Gymnasium No. 1 in Vitebsk .

The grammar school, named after Friedrich III , Elector of Brandenburg and later Friedrich I, King of Prussia , was inaugurated on July 1, 1694. The celebrations lasted six hours and the old town hall at Oderstraße 5 was used as the school building . The school's financial situation was always very tense in the following years. German was only taught in the first grade, Latin, music and religion in particular in the following three classes. Arithmetic was not taught. In 1794 70 students attended the Friedrichsschule. They did not have to pay regular school fees, but when they were admitted to school and transferred to a higher class, they each had to pay one or two thalers. Classes took place in the mornings between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., with afternoon classes from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on four days. There were holidays of one week each for the Christian festivals and the three masses as well as the exam period. There was no summer vacation.

In 1813 the school had assets of 16,966 thalers, three school buildings and alumni assets of 12,849 thalers. The value of the school's books, especially those donated by Professors Westermann and Caussee, was estimated at 30,000 to 40,000 thalers. The reason for listing the school's assets was a reorganization of the school system, initiated by Prussia's defeat by Napoleon and not least by the university's move to Frankfurt. The Friedrichsschule became the learned school and the secondary school that existed next to it lost its upper classes in favor of the Friedrichsschule. In 1818 the school became too small and they moved into the building at Oderstrasse 1 . In the same year Leopold Ranke became a history teacher at the school and remained so until he accepted an appointment at the University of Berlin in 1825. In 1864, Oderstrasse 1 was expanded in order to cope with the number of students. In 1874 the sponsorship of the school passed from the city to the state, as the financial burden for Frankfurt had become unbearable.

In 1882 the state had today's school building built on Gubener Straße.
