Friedrich Carl Hönniger

Friedrich Carl Hönniger (born November 19, 1812 in Rudolstadt ; † April 30, 1874 there ) was a German lawyer, Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt official and radical democratic politician.

Life

Between 1832 and 1834 he studied law in Heidelberg , Jena and Berlin . During his studies in Jena in 1833/34 he became a member of the fraternity society on the Burgkeller . He then entered the civil service of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. From 1834 to 1836 he was an official advisor in Königsee . After that he was commission secretary to the government until 1842. In 1842 he was appointed government secretary and in 1844 secret government secretary. Between 1848 and 1851 he was a councilor in Rudolstadt.

He belonged to the state parliament of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. In 1848 he was President of the Congregation. Between May 18, 1848 and June 18, 1849, Hönniger was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly for the constituency of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. There he belonged to the democratically oriented parliamentary groups or associations Deutscher Hof , Donnersberg and the Central March Association . In the National Assembly he protested against the military occupation of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt in autumn 1848 by Prussian troops of the Federal Army and spoke out in favor of the abolition of small states. In May 1849 he took part in the calls for the extra-parliamentary struggle for the imperial constitution and finally voted against the election of Friedrich Wilhelm IV as Emperor of the Germans.

There was a high treason trial against him from 1849 to 1851. Among other things, he was accused of having signed a revolutionary appeal by the Donnersberg parliamentary group and to have taken part in the rump parliament in Stuttgart . The trial ended with his impeachment and sentencing to one year in prison. Since then he has worked as a lawyer in Rudolstadt. Hönniger was sentenced again to prison in 1857 for distributing opposition writings.
