Friedrich Christian Baumeister (born July 17, 1709 in Körner (Thuringia) , † October 8, 1785 in Görlitz ) was a German philosopher.

Life

Baumeister attended high school in Gotha, then went to the University of Jena in 1727, where he was inspired by Johann Köhler for Wolff's philosophy. On May 21, 1729 he moved to the University of Wittenberg , where he heard philology and rhetoric under Johann Wilhelm von Berger and pursued philosophical studies with Friedrich Wilhelm Schlosser and Samuel Christian Hollmann . In Wittenberg he acquired the academic degree of a Magister on October 17, 1730 and was able to receive the academic teaching license of a Magister Legens on the following day, October 18, 1730.

After he had become an adjunct at the philosophical faculty of the academy on April 29, 1734 , he accepted an appointment as rector at the grammar school in Görlitz in 1736 . Later attempts were made to win master builders for the office of professor of philosophy in Wittenberg, but he stayed in Görlitz until the end of his life. By writing widely used textbooks, he has made a contribution to the spread of Christian Wolff's philosophy .
